We're building a user report that includes user-specific metrics and KPIs. As such we want to put a filter on the dataset and set it = USERPRINCIPALNAME() so each user only sees their own data. We know that we can do that via RLS Roles, but since there is no use of the report outside of this filter we wanted to put the filter on the root table itself.
Is there a way to set a filter outside of RLS Roles, specifically using USERPRINCIPALNAME()?

Hi @pauljevans ,
I still recommend you to use RLS. It is not troublesome for him not to use it, don't be afraid.
You can refer to the article which tells you what Do You Need to Implement Dynamic Row-Level Security in Power BI.
Also this website is a collection of articles about rls.

@pauljevans if you are using DQ and then you can take advantage of dynamic parameter but with import, you have to do the full load and then RLS as you mentioned above.
