Hello, would be happy if you could help me. my question is in regards to data limit, if i have a heavy query, and not all data is presented in the report. what happens if i take action on the report to filter or sort, will the action only be on the limited data or another request will be sent to the database

im not completely sure, but i think if there is a case when not all data is rendered in visual then re-render process after sorting will evaluate new query to data source.

Hi @Anonymous
if to say simple there are 2 modes work with data:
1. DirectQuery. In this mode, yes, user's actions could affect the origin data source
2. Import data. In this mode, after importing data to power bi data model user works only with loaded data and doesn't affect to origin data source

Thanks! Just to make sure:
in case of DirectQuery that exceed the limit (only part of the data is shown in the report) and the query is sorted by "date":
When viewing the report, id like to change the sort to be by "name", will the query be called again to bring a new list order by "name" or ill work on the limited list initially provided.
