Data import from sql database filtering to smaller dataset

I am new to connecting to sql databases in powerbi but not new to powerbi. 

when i connect to a single table within a sql database is it possible to reduce the table size, for example 

i have a table that dates back to 2007 but i only need  the past two years of data , can i do this prior to importing the entire table which takes a long time?

You may enter the sql query to get the past two years of data in the SQL statement.Then import the data you need.
