Hi,

I've created calculating columns in "Results" that refer to the data.
When I import new data out of an Excel sheet, I receive a second field "Results (2)":1.PNG

 

But the calculating colums are in "Results":

 

so that the calculating columns refer to the new data?

Just point the source path for your existing RESULTS table to the new file:

File --> Options & Settings --> Data Source Settings

Excel 1:

Firstly get data from Excel1 and build a calculated column.

 

Column = AVERAGEX(FILTER(Sheet1,Sheet1[Name]=EARLIER(Sheet1[Name])),Sheet1[Quantity])

 

Result:

Change the Data Source like

Unfortunately, the forum bugs and my sentence is chopped up into pieces....
My question was: How can I overwright the data in "Results" so that the calculating colums refer to the new imported data and that a new field ("Results (2)") won't be created?

Hi @Anonymous,

 

No, the calculated columns will stay in Results and refer to table Results.

Do I understand correctly that you want to import new data from Excel into the same table? Do you want a separate table?

Yes, I'd like to overwright the data of the old table so that the calculating colums can result new output with the new data.

I've exactly done this! Having chosen a new source and refreshed again, it still updates the old Excel file although I've chosen a new path with a new name for the Excel sheet...

@Anonymous , Then open the Power Query Editor (click on Transform Data), select the Result table, click Advanced Editor and see if the code still has the old or the new path to the file.

Why don't you just refresh the data in the first Results table?

If you have an Excel x.xlsx. You import data into Results table. Then, when you add / change data in the x.xlsx file, you don't need to import the data again. All you have to do is click the Refresh button and the data will automatically refresh in the Results table, and the next table will not be created.

Hi @Anonymous ,

 

The reason why your new data file is named as RESULTS(2) is because there is an existing table name in your dtaa model RESULTS.

You can easily modify names of your tables. Right click on table --> Rename

 

Regarding the calculated column, whenever you areate a calculated column in a table, it resides in the same table. In your case they will be in RESULTS table. (as they were created there)

 

Don't get confused with RESULTS and RESULTS(2). They are different tables.
