So currently, for rows I have different categories of sales / expenses, and as columns I have months. Creating a line chart by month doesn't seem to play nice this way. How would I go about reshaping the data so it's more easily visualized?

Not really sure how your data is growing in the model but you should choose all you date columns and unpivot the values you would them get a single column with dates and another with values and could add them to your visuals or calculate measures upon that.
