I exported several reports from the service to desktop and refreshed them with no errors.

I downloaded and installed the latest gateway.

Is there some place where the trace errrors go to? I looked everywhere and couldn't find any error logs.

You could go to File—>Option and Settings—>Options—>Diagnostics—>tick the Enable tracing —> Open traces folder, then you will find the Power BI log files.
