Data Limit

Hi all,

I would appreciate anyone's help regarding this. I went multiple platforms and all of them have different and confusing answers.

1. What is the data limit that can be imported and publised by Power BI Desktop free users?

1. What is the data limit that can be imported and published for Power BI Desktop pro users?
Somewhere it's 10 and somewhere it's 1 gb. If this is 10 GB, does this mean that when a pro users shares report with free users, is it that free user can only view 1 gb size of visualization in Power BI online?

1. What is the data limit that can be imported in Power BI Desktop premium?
If it is say 10 gb. Does this mean that regardless of who Power BI premium user is sharing to (free or pro), the free/pro users will be able to view full reports/visualization (10 GB) that is publish?

It is really confusing me. Please Help!!

Hi @Anonymous

There is a 1 GB limit per dataset that is imported into Power BI. This is the data size limit for a PBIX file published from Desktop to Service, both for free users and pro users.

For workspaces in shared capacity:

  • There is a per-workspace storage limit of 10 GB. You may have multiple datasets/reports/dashboards and other resources in a workspace, the total size of them in a workspace should be less than 10 GB. The size limit for each dataset is still 1 GB in this case.
  • For app workspaces, the total usage can’t exceed the tenant storage limit of 10 GB multiplied by the number of Pro licenses in the tenant.

For workspaces in Premium capacity:

  • There is a limit of 100 TB per Premium capacity.
  • There is no per-user storage limit.
  • A dataset in Premium is able to be larger than 1 GB depending on the Premium SKU.

No matter a report is located in shared capacity or premium capacity, a user is able to view a full report if he has access to the report.
