DAX measure to format based on value

Hi,
I want to format the value returned based on the data.

For two calcualtions I want currency, for the other I want standard.

I have tried this ...

Value =
SWITCH(TRUE(),
SELECTEDVALUE(Data[Item]) = 5, FORMAT(CALCULATE(SUMX(Data, Data[Val] )),"Currency"),
SELECTEDVALUE(Data[Item]) = 16, FORMAT(CALCULATE(SUMX(Data, Data[Val] )),"Currency"),
FORMAT(CALCULATE(SUMX(Data, Data[Val] )),"Standard"))

But it is not letting me use the measure in a visual.

Any ideas where I am going wrong or suggestions for alternative approach?

Thanks in advance
John

@johnmelbourne , I think because it has become text and some visual will not allow text in values.
