Customize sorting order in the column items of a matrix table

Dear Friends,

I have a list of items in my report pan in PBI ( as shown in attached picture), The PBI only let me to order the values for "list of metrics" based  on alphabetical order (either ascending or descending).I would to know if there is anyway I can manually set their presenttion orders. For example,I can set the order for "list of metrics"  as  Indexed pages value come first then Breadcrump and etc.

Hi Myti,

If you have a unique key or number for each item "list of metrics" in another column in your data - you can use the Sort By Column via the modelling tab and select to sort a column by another column.

If you dont have a one to one match between the key and the item name - you will have to create a calculated column in either dax or your query.

As @donsvensen has mentioned above, you can use Sort By Column to customize sorting order in the column items of a Matrix table. The following sample is for your reference.

For example, I have a Matrix table with the first column called MonthName( as shown in the picture below). Now I can only order the values for MonthName based on alphabetical order (either ascending or descending). What if I want to order them base on the real month order not on the alphabetical order?

In this case, we can use Sort By Column to customize the sorting order. Go to Data tab, select the column name we want to sort(here is "MonthName"), then click Sort By Column under Modeling(We can see the column is sorted by itself by default).

Now we can change the sort column to any other column(If there is no such column that can meet our needs in the table, we may need to create a calculated column according to our needs). Here I choose the "MonthNo" column.

When go back to the report, we can see the sorting order has already changed.
