Custom conditional Column from separate list of data

Hi

In powerbi I have a query with 2000 rows of data. Within that data i have a column called equipment type. There are over 225 different equipment labels, I am trying to create a custom column that will add a category to the rows. I have 6 categories and would like to make a condition column that inquires into a separate list of categories by referencing the query so that the equipment can be updated easily. I currently have 6 seperate list of the data groups with the peices of equipment that belongs to each categories. Is this possible.

Hi @mccullm,

I made one sample for your reference. If it doesn't meet your requirement, Kindly share your pbix to me.

1. Create relationship between two tables.

2. Create a calculated column in the target table.

category1 = RELATED(Table2[category])

For more details, please check the pbix as attached.

Hi @mccullm,

Does that make sense? If so, kindly mark my answer as a solution to close the case.
