Custom VIsuals not working

I'm having a problem loading any custom visual in the latest version of power bi desktop. When i click the ellipses to load in a custom visual, it says the visual has been loaded but it never shows up under visualizations. Only 1 that i've tried from the gallery has shown up. That is the SmartFilter. Others that i've tried are Strippets browser, Cluster Map, Network Navigator and others.

I also have reports written using the February update that have custom visuals. When opening the those reports the visuals don't show up in the editor and the sections of the report that have the visual are just blank. If i upload the report to the web portal the custom visuals show up fine.

Another thing i noticed is if you try to load the same visual it tells you it is already installed.

I tried this on 3 different computers. 2 of the computers were fresh installs of the latest version of power bi desktop, and also downloaded fresh copies of the visuals from the gallery.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

It looks like there is an https communication going on when you load most of the custom visuals to visuals.azureedge.net. I bypassed that in our corporate proxy and it started working.

@smbolster i can't replicate your issue as with july update version i can successfully import custom visuals. i tried one's you mentioned such as network navigator, strippets browser. maybe try contacting MS support.

I just connected to my home computer and downloaded the latest version to see if it was something on my domain. I was able to load the custom visuals. It's got me thinking that maybe something is getting blocked. Any clue if there is any http or https communications when a visual is loaded?

How did you "by-Pass" this?

If your company, assuming your working for a company, is using a web content filtering service than they will need to allow visuals.azureedge.net to pass through. We use zScaler and they were blocking that address. I bypassed it on the web portal to allow it through instead of getting blocked.

We have the same.  Can you tell me how to do what you did?

In the zScaler dashboard go to the policy menu and then choose ssl inspection. In the bypassed URL just add an entry for .azureedge.net. Save it and don't forget to activate.

How do you get to that dashboard?  Sorry this is all greek to me.

It depends on your subscription. You may not have permissions to access the dashboard. If you have an IT team who set this up it's probably best to go through them.

Our dashboard uses https://admin.zscalertwo.net but that may not be the same for you. There is at least one other url they use, but I don't know that one.

I work for GE so you are probably correct on all fronts.  I may have to load offline then refresh the pbix and deal with the lack of ability to interact with those custome visuals while on line at work.

Thanks for all your help.

How do you "bypass" it?

How does one check this?  When I go to  visuals.azureedge.net , nothing happens.

Going to the address in a browser won't return anything. I used smartsniff to watch the traffic when i added a custom visual and for most of them that wouldn't load visuals.azureedge.net was one of the connections trying to made.

You can use any network sniffer. Smartsniff is good for when you don't have to dig deep, wireshark when you need to.
