Creating A Report With A Header, Footer, And Grouped Content

Following is an example of the kind of report I am trying to achieve using Power BI.

  • It's your traditional report: Maybe a graphic (logo), a title and header text. All three of which are to appear at the top of every page.
  • The main content is a table displaying the data for the report, and it must also be able to support grouping. In the example the records are grouped by "Department".
  • Then at the bottom of each page is some footer text, along with the current page number.
  • The data is coming from a database, so the number of records is not known upfront. So the report could be one page, or 100 pages.
  • Each page must be able to fit on a chosen output piece of paper: whether it be A4, US Letter, or some other common paper size.

Is this possible to do with Power BI?

Hi there,

That is not really what PowerBI Desktop is used for.

I think you might want to check out Power BI Paginated reports:

Hi @Anonymous ,

1. "It's your traditional report: Maybe a graphic (logo), a title and header text. All three of which are to appear at the top of every page."

  • This is possible in Power BI. You will manually add them not like in office word that once you set a header, it will appear on all pages. Power BI is used for data analysing.

2.  "The main content is a table displaying the data for the report, and it must also be able to support grouping. In the example the records are grouped by "Department"."

  • We have lots of visualizations available in Power BI. This can be achieved. I believe.

3.  "Then at the bottom of each page is some footer text, along with the current page number."

  • Also, this can be achieved by manually putting a footer and page number. Power BI is used for analysing data.

4. "The data is coming from a database, so the number of records is not known upfront. So the report could be one page, or 100 pages. "

  • Depends on how many pages you create. You can actually create more than 100 pages.

5. "Each page must be able to fit on a chosen output piece of paper: whether it be A4, US Letter, or some other common paper size."

  • Once you export the report in pdf, you can print it in any page size and any orientation you want.
