Create build-in data hierarchy

Dear all,

I want to do something like picture 1 to the table of picture 2, create a build-in date hierarchy from a date column. How can I do this?

I right clicked the "create hierarchy" and the result is not I expected.

I did the build-in date hierarchy before but forgot how to do this now...

Also, why there is a "calendar icon" on the left hand side in picture 1 and no icon in picture 2?

Thank you so much.

Hi, @phchu1226 ;

If there is no built-in date hierarchy, check the following:

No hierarchy will be created :

  • when the date table  relationship(only one side of the date can use the date hierarchy).
  • In Direct Query connections

https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Turn-off-date-hierarchy/m-p/872637

So, If you want to display a hierarchy, you can manually create it yourself or use another date with a hierarchy.

Hi, @amitchandak

Yes, the data type is date for sure.

Is it mean that I cannot create the relatioship between "ACDATE" and the Date table if I just want to use the build-in date hierarchy??

Also, what is the meaning of the calendar icon??phchu1226_0-1630384074194.png

Thanks

@phchu1226 , The icon is the calendar icon. Means date , And you have Hierarchy too.

Try like

ACDATE 1 = [ACDATE]

and join ACDATE with date table, do you see hierarchy with ACDATE1, if not then there is some issue. Open and check power query for any error

@phchu1226 , If Date is joined with Date that is marked as date table, you might not get hierarchy.

Also, make sure the data type is date

refer if needed

These are the reasons Date Hierarchy can be missing

Hi, @amitchandak

refer to this post, https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Date-Hierarchy-Doesn-t-show/td-p/525460 ,

so it means that I cannot create the build-in date hierarchy if I created the relationship between my own date table and the "ACDATE" field?
