Couldn't load the model schema Direct Query

Hi,

I am encountering issue : "Couldn't load the model schema" when trying to use Direct Query.

Database is Oracle 12.9

Power BI version: 2.64.5285.741 64-bit (November, 2018)

To establish connection wth database I have used this format:

Source = Oracle.Database("(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=XXX.COM)(PORT=XXXX))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=XXXXXXX)))",

This issue is only for direct query and am able to work with import options. We need to have direct query as our table has million and millions of rows and importing data is making the report refresh process very slow.

I have read most of the similar posted issue on community but it doesnot work for me. Kindly, help

Thanks in advance

@Anonymous,

It seems that you might need to install and configure an On-premises data gateway.

i have 0 experience with PBI-Oracle but for what i know, you need to have a data gateway implemented on the server machine, not personal (local) gateway,  is it what you did?

@Nickgastaldi

Yup, thats what I did.

I tried to install on premise gateway but it gave me error while installation, I am thinking -- I might have to get the antivirus disabled while installation, this will take some time, so I went ahead with personal gateway. I can setup schedules with it but the main issue remains same.

Thanks

@Anonymous

for what i know, Personal Gateway is only for Import and Scheduled import, it does not support Direct Query properly

as stated in MS Doc

  • On-premises data gateway: Multiple users can share and reuse a gateway in this mode. This gateway can be used by Power BI, PowerApps, Flow or Logic Apps. For Power BI, this includes support for both schedule refresh and DirectQuery
  • Personal: This is for Power BI only and can be used as an individual without any administrator configuration. This can only be used for on-demand refresh and schedule refresh. This selection launchs installation of the personal gateway.

hope this helps you solve your issue 🙂
