Connect Power BI to AWS Redshift by 'Assuming a role' (Not use IAM User credentials)

Hi there,

It is best practice in AWS to use 'roles' rather than 'IAM users'.

It means you must log in to AWS and then assume the appropriate role in order to action something e.g. create a table in the datawarehouse with the redshift role.

However, this means when I try to connect  Power BI to my Redshift Datawarehouse, I am unable to do so with my AWS user name and password (login screen shown below). The only way to connect with the correct permissions is by 'assuming the role'.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Hi @asherbowden ,

I'm sorry to inform you that at the moment power bi can't use the role connection data. You must put in your username and password. You should use the server name that precisely matches the SSL certificate to avoid errors.
