Conditional formatting on line chart no longer working?

I previously was using this workaround to get conditional formatting for different colored markers on a line chart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4iG8S4EpHs  However it doesn't seem to be working anymore. Did the May update take away this capability? Data colors keeps getting reset to a default and doesn't keep the rules anymore. Can anyone confirm? Any new workarounds for it, or actual supported options?
