Columns not coming up in formulas

Hi,

When I click 'New Measure' the columns don't come up in the formula when i click '[' or '''.
They do when i click 'New Column'.

Why is this?

Cheers

measures expect some sort of aggregate function because it is not stored at the row level.  New columns would add a value for each row.  Measure just sum up, or get the max or min or a distinct count.   In order to get a column into a measure you to work you need to apply an aggregate function to a column or call on another calculated measure.

Hi @michaelsparrow,

>>When I click 'New Measure' the columns don't come up in the formula when i click '[' or '''.

Measure calculate value, it not support direct calculate with column value. You should polymeric them to get value.(e.g. sum(table[Column]), max(table[column])

I'd like to suggest you take a look at below link about how to use measure.

Tutorial: Create your own measures in Power BI Desktop
