This looks like one that keeps cropping up. Ive seen videos on how to do this with a column called Month but Im specifically using the month from the date hierarchy, You would think that because its in the date hierarchy it would automatically sort correctly
I have a column chart and its currently ordered January, August September October November December
of course I need it ordering by August September October November December January. It only allows you to sort by one field Month.
And you cant add a sort by column to Month because its in the hierarchy
How do I get the Month part of the date hierarchy to sort by Year and Month?
Hi @DebbieE,
Please refer to my reply in this similar thread.
Making the x-axis labels into a timeline

I tried that and it didnt work
1. You cant apply a sort order to Month in the hierarchy
2. You can apply a sort order to date but this doesnt seem to apply to Month when you get to that level
I have done a workaround where I created a string of 201901 201812 and I have had to add it into the tooltip so I can use it as a sort for everything. Its not great thought because I dont really want that value in the tooltip but If its not there I cant sort on it.
