Column Chart Auto Label with Default Inside End

For column charts is there any option for using the data label auto position but having it default to inside end instead of outside end? I am using vertical orientation and I would like my labels to display within the bar as a first option if there is sufficient room and outside the bar as a second option.

Thanks

HI @calgarygeologis ,

You can't change the default option within Power BI's Desktop underlying system from Auto to Inside End.

You will have to select it from formatting options for your visual:

Yes Pragati, I understand that. As shown in the image below in cases such as the first two sets of bars I would like the labels for the grey and peach labels to be inside the bar. When the bar is not large enough such as the violet bars or the right most grey bar I want the label outside. But Auto defaults to always placing the labels outside the bars.

HI @calgarygeologis ,

Can you shed more light on how the colors of the bar are decided on your chart? Have you moved something to a LEGEND field in the visual?

Thanks,

Pragati

Yes, there is a column series/legend being applied to the column values.

Hi @calgarygeologis ,

I can suggest one option here is based on your Legend values you can customise labels.

Under formatting options --> data labels --> Customise Series:

You can use this option to set labels based on your legend values.

But if you are looking for dynamic label position based on the size of the bar on your chart, I can't think of a way.

Thanks,

Pragati
