Chart Cannot be Sorted by Axis Field in Ascending Order

Expected Behavior:

  1. In a column or line & stacked column chart, I expect to be able to sort the chart by the axis field in ascending order.

Actual Behavior:

  1. By default, the chart sorts by value. If I change to "Sort by [Field Name]" the chart sorts in descending order. However, if I click on "Sort by [Field Name]" again, then the chart reverts back to sorting by value. There is no way to be able to sort by Field Name in ascending order.

How to Reproduce:

  1. I reproduced this in the April 2018 version of PBI Desktop
  2. Create a new column or line/column chart with a measure on Value and a text field on the Axis. E.g. the measure might be 'Executions' and the axis field might be 'Test Name'.
  3. Try to sort the chart by 'Test Name' is ascending order by clicking on the ellipse at the top right on the visual. You cannot. At least I cannot.

Hi @leonardmurphy,

Actually this is a trick of the button. When you click the option, the option is enabled. If you want to change the order, you need to click the small icon in the head. Please refer to the snapshot below.

Mine only can show descending order, how to change it to ascending order in the menu?

Hi @Tze,

Click on the icon in the head (ZA and down arrow) exactly. Please refer to the snapshot of my post.

Subtle, but that was the problem. I must have been clicking on the words rather than the icon at the beginning. Thank you.
