Changing datasource from one server to another

Hi everyone, i have tried to search for this and haven't been able to find any examples in the forum or on the web.

Background:

Our front end websystem is going through coding changes so they will be migrating the data from one database to another so i need to re-point from one server to another. Simple 🙂 we have done this twice before, however i am hitting a snag as atm while doing migration testing.

I have copied my pbix locally, renamed and plan to point to a new app for users to regression test from. In theory this should just be change the datasources and enter the new user and password. It has been on the majority, however one just through me a curveball.

It is telling me:

The name 'AgentType' is already used for a column on table 'tbrReservationAgents'. Choose a different name.

Now i can just rename, but i am questioning why it is asking me to all of a sudden. If i refresh the original it loads as it always has, the copy before the repoint also works. However once i change the datasources and it asked to apply changes it then gives this error. I inherited these models, but they all have examples of this. Why all of a sudden would it ask for them to be different?

Am i missing something. Is this a redhearing?

Other things to note before im asked:

In options in currently file data loads only "enable parrallel loading of tables" is ticked, nothing else.

Hi sorry i think it was a false alarm, it looks like despite being told by our supplier in their release notes that no views we use have been changed they lied.

They have added an additional column called 'agent type', which is 1/0's and i have a calculated column being generated called the same.

Thank you both, i was in meetings all yesterday but on looking more closely it was a simple issue caused by trust and rushing to test the new environment.

HI @Shabyman ,

If your datasources has same data structure, you can refer to following link to parametrize your connection string query query parameters. Then you can simply change datasource on power bi service side.

Using the Power BI Service Parameters to change connection strings (To possibly change between Dev

@Shabyman seems like AgentType column is added manually in model and now this column seems like coming from new data source.

Can you check following:

in power query, you can see the data correctly for all the steps for tblReservationAgents, if yes, does it have AgentType column in it, yes or no?

Do you see if new column added called AgentType using dax in this table?
