Ok, so I know how to change the data source connection settings, but need to be able to do so without PB accessing the data source.
The specific scenario is that I am using Direct Query and every so often the DBA's change the database user account password.
So what happens is that I open my pbix and not only does it fail to get data from the source, the user account gets locked due to invalid login attempts.
Is there a way to change the connection password without opening the pbix, or some way to open it but not try to retrieve data?
Thanks
Gary
No, it's not possible. The data source is created within Power BI Desktop, to edit the accessing user credential, you have to open the .pbix file. And we can't disable retrieving data when using Direct Query mode.
Under Direct Query mode, it will open connection to data source at intervals. In this scenario, if each user has own account, you should let end users to edit the password. If this account is shared by multiple users, it's not a good practice to lock this account due to access with incorrect password.
