Change of data source from excel to sharepoint

We are changing our data source.  Right now it is pulled in an Excel document on a sharepoint site but pulled in as excel.

We want to change it to Sharepoint folder which will allow us to set up automatic updates.

I am having an issue trying to figure out how to do this without having to recreate my many Power BI reports.

Any ideas would be so helpful.

Hi @tdilling,

When changing the data source of a file in order to keep the reports working what you need to have attention is that the last step of the query keeps the table structure the same, meaning same names and types for the columns that already exist on your report, if you have additional ones or remove some that are not used in the reports that not an issue.

I have made some of this replacements and what I do is to create a new query with the new source then in the advance editor I copy the steps from the source and replaced them on the other query.

Meaning in this case that you need to create the connection to the sharepoint folder and make all the steps until connected to the file you want, no need to make the treatment of the file. Them just replace the first steps on the initial query, probably you need to small adjustments to the steps after the paste.
