Change datasource from sql to tabular model

Hi Experts!

We have a lot of dashboards designed for Power BI in the Cloud and started migrating them to SQL vNext Power Bi on prem.

We achieved to convert the Power BI Model to a Tabular Models and now I want to change the data source from SQL to the converted Tabular Model.  In the Datasource Settings it is only possible to change the connection from from SQL-Server to an other. Is there a possibility to change from SQL-Datasource to Tabular Model?

Thanks in advanced.

Hi @erhardrainer,

As you know we can just change the connection information for the same data source type, we are not able to change the SQL Server data source to SSAS data source and keeping the report visuals fine. We need to open a new connection use SSAS to get data then re-design the report.

With current limitations of PBI Report server that only integrates the "visual" part of PBI and not the "data" part, this is very bad news.

Is not it possible to dissociate 2 part in the XML file from the PBIX archive ??

No workaround avaible?
