Change Name of Columns - Where and Why?

There are multiple places to change the name of a column represented in the dataset:

  • Field Pane (Right-Rail)
  • Visualizations Pane (Right-Rail)
  • Query Editor

I have never practiced a specific discipline in my dashboards, but I am curious to the implications and benefits to where I change the column name.

Thanks!

You can also rename from the column header on the Data screen. That is typically where I do it, but I sometimes will rename in the Power Query Editor directly as well. I find it a bit tricky to do it on the Fields pane because you can right-click or click [...] on a field and rename one that is *not* currently outlined in yellow. It's a visual feedback issue for me.
