Can you connect to dataset in power bi service from desktop?

I have created a pbix file in desktop, which connects to spreadsheets in sharepoint.  I have then published this to the power bi service, which creates a report and dataset.  If I want to create new report via the web site, I can simply click on the dataset and start building my new report, which will leverage the dataset and underlying model created in the original pbix file.

My question is, is it possible to do the same thing using power bi desktop?  Using GetData, is it possible to point it to the dataset in Power Bi service, and then build a report based on that dataset?

No, you can't do that.  You can use Analyze in Excel to do that though.  http://exceleratorbi.com.au/power-bi-analyze-excel-what-you-need-to-know/

I generally recommened you author all your pbix files in power bi desktop - there is no backing up your files (currently) for any changes made in the service.   http://exceleratorbi.com.au/save-pbix-power-bi-service-under-delivers/

As useful as Analyze in Excel is, this is not what is required here.  Out users want to be able to use Power BI Desktop to author new report and then publish to the Power BI Service.

If anyone else needs this requirement, please vote for this idea:
