Can't drill down on date hierachy?

I must have misunderstood the new release of Power BI Desktop.

I thought they added support for hierarchies and drill down inside a hierarchy?

So I have a line chart with fiscal years and periods (period child of year in hierarchy) and then I'm charting TotalSales.

It shows up great for that, but if I want to drill down from year to period (month basically) and that comes from a time table/date marked table in SSAS Tabular...I can't drill down?

Is there not support for drill down?

Hi @OneWithQuestion,

Based on my test in the newest Power BI Desktop ( Version: 2.35.4399.601 ), drill down is not available in the general Line chart. For this issue, I will report it internally, and keep you updated once I get any feedback.

In your scenario, if you want to use Drill Down feature for a line chart, you can add a Line or Stacked chart, or Line or Clustered chart, then place corresponding fields in Shared Axis and Line Values properties to workaround the issue. See:

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

Drill down is supported for lots of visuals, but currently not for Line Charts.

Yeah. But not in this thread, to be fair to @OneWithQuestion. Other than the easy name joke, it was a perfectly cromulent question.

Thank you, I feel that your reply embiggens the overall utility of the conversation and further reinforces its cromulence 🙂

Hi @OneWithQuestion,

I have gotten the feedback from the Microsoft. Currently the drill down feature is only available for some of the visualizations. Here's the list:

  • Bar Chart
  • Column Chart
  • Clustered Bar Chart
  • Clustered Column Chart
  • 100% Stacked Bar Chart
  • 100% Stacked Column Chart
  • Line and Stacked Column Chart
  • Line and Clustered Column Chart
  • Waterfall Chart
  • Scatter Chart
  • Pie Chart
  • Treemap
  • Map
  • Filled Map
  • Funnel
  • Donut Chart

They said that the drill down feature is not supported in line charts, this is by design.

Thanks for your understanding and support. Smiley Happy
