Can loading a filtered table from Oracle slow network or take a network down

Long time reader, first time poster:
 
Can loading one table (not a direct query) with 3 filtered fields (to limit data size) take down a server or put such a severe load as to cause havic accross network and many platforms?  I have created many reports on this table in Crystal Reports with no issues.   Power BI is new to our environment this fiscal year.

Depends on the load of the system when querying the data. If your system is already at the limit of what it can do and you throw load on it it could be problematic (but unlikely)

In principle you will have less problems if you use the ImportMode.

And if refreshing a PowerBI report brings your system to its knees, it means that your system was already under a lot of load.

I would make sure that the refresh times are not at the "peak time" of the system

In a nutshell:

• Can it put a strain on the system? Yes
• Is it likely? Rather No
• How tragic can it be? How high was the load before? It all depends on your environmental factors and you should test it with/on a test system
