Calculate growth based on count rather than sum

Hello,

I'm stuck in the following scenario:

Have a table like this:

ID	Code	Date From	Date To
14453049	Athlete	18/10/2016
14453051	Athlete	18/10/2016	12/08/2019
14453056	Athlete	18/10/2016
14452973	Athlete	17/10/2016
14452979	Athlete	17/10/2016
14452984	Athlete	17/10/2016
14452990	Athlete	17/10/2016
14452994	Athlete	17/10/2016	20/12/2018
14453008	Athlete	17/10/2016	27/06/2018
14453011	Athlete	17/10/2016

I need to calculate number of new athletes based on date from and gone athletes based on date to and somehow calculate the monthly growth. Which functions I would need to use to achieve this? Any help appreciated.
