COMBINEVALUES DAX function does not exist?!

I cannot find and use the COMBINEVALUES function, which suposedly is the best option for composite keys in direct query mode. (https://www.sqlbi.com/articles/using-combinevalues-to-optimize-directquery-performance/)

Does anyone see this function available, or Microsoft removed it?

We can see it here not showing both both in Power BI Desktop Report Server 2019 Jan, and SSAS 2017.

The function COMBINEVALUES was announced in the August 2018 Power BI Report Server version:

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-report-server-update-august-2018/#combineValues

New DAX function: COMBINEVALUES()

This month’s update adds a new DAX function COMBINEVALUES(), that allows multi part keys to be handled in a more efficient way when using DirectQuery.

It has happened to me after I downloaded the update to day....

SSAS doesn't recognize this function anymore!?!?

After diggint into it, found out that this function is only available in:

- Power BI Destkop version (normal version, not report server compatible)

- SSAS 2019 (not available in 2017 less)

Surprisingly, I had used it since Feb 2018. And it has just stopped working after I download VS updates today.

Did they just decide to pull it off from SSAS 2017?!?!

That's really unfortunate if you're working with composite keys in direct query mode...

Hope this helps

Mariusz

Thanks @Mariusz , I can see it in my Power BI Report Server Jan 2019 version too indeed.

On SSAS it does not show up, can you try to create a tabular project in 1400 compatibility mode + direct query and see if it shows up?

Hi @PedroReis ,

Based on my test, SSAS doesn't have this function.

Best Regards,

Teige

Hi @PedroReis,

Sorry do not have SQL server installed on my laptop so will not be able to help, howerver the fact that your AS is 2017 might be the reason for this function not being availeble as it was introduced in 2018.

Many Thanks

Mariusz
