Bug? The model doesn't have a named expression named "###"

Hello Community,

I recently experience a weird behaviour of power BI. It also happens to reports that have not be changed the last couple months but it also happens to new reports as well. The manual and the auto refresh wont work anymore due to an error message:

the model doesn't have a named expression named "###"

The weird thing is, it seems to be happening with measure tables only:

I decided to deactivate the KPI measure table in the report refresh. However, the changes wont be applied after closing the power query editor. But after doing that, I can refresh the data for that report.

Does anyone know what is going on? It seems to me as a bug but I am not sure. I havent changed reports and yet I get the error message.

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Hi @raymond ,

Please try to disable the "enhanced dataset metadata" feature and check if the issue still persist. Click File > Options and settings > options > preview features, and then deselect the Store datasets using enhanced metadata format checkbox, as shown in the following image. You can review this thread for full details.

Hi @Pragati11 ,

I have checked that thread as well.

1. renaming the measure table:

  • works for one update
  • after closing and re-opening the issue occurs again

2. Getting rid of the deleted column in the power query editor for the measure table

  • helps but as a consequence the measure table becomes a normal table
  • This is not really a satisfying solution

3. Creating a new measure table and moving all measures to it

  • This seemed to solve the issue for some but is not manageable if you have multiple reports and a large number of measures
  • after all, it still doesnt explain why the error occurs and it doesnt ensure that it may happen again

For me these are all workarounds that seem to work for the moment but do not solve or explain the underlying issue.
