Best practices to update daily and annual data using gateway.

Hello,

I have a large file containing all daily sales from 2013 to 2017. And another file contains all daily sales of 2018. So, every new year I have to append all sales file and last year file ( e.g as we are in 2018, I had to append the file 2013-2016 with the file 2017). And another problem that, as the year goes by, the current year file becomes larger. At the beginning of the year the file has only january sales, but at the end of the year that file has sales from all months.

So I want to known if it is possible to send an unique large file to Power BI Server containing all sales until today and starting from tomorrow, once a day, I just send to Power BI Server daily sales to be appended to that large file. If it is not possible, what is the best practice?

Thanks.

Hi @Anonymous

Currently when you refresh a Power BI Dataset, it refreshes all the data. So in your instance it would refresh all the data from 2013-2018. You could put the data into seperate files and then get them all from One folder in Power BI, so you would not have to move data into different files.

There is a feature coming to Power BI Premium which will allow incremental refresh.

Hi @Anonymous,

In addition, here is the idea of incremental Data Loads shared on Power BI Ideas forum. You can vote it up and add your comments there to improve Power BI on this feature. Smiley Happy
