Auto numbers as a key

Dears,

I'm a new person on PBI and I used to work with other BI tools but I don't know how to handle this in PBI, the question is: I have a data source kind of cloud CRM and as you know the CRM key is varchar and when I export a sample data I excel to imported on PBI desktop to test, it doesn't recognize the key to link two tables the key look like "Xwtasv23h"  so how can I convert this to a sequence number to link both together.

I can do that if I have a DWH "ETL" but in this case, I don't. Please advice, I used to solve this with other BI platforms in many ways, but in PBI I couldn't.

Thanks in advanced.

@Anonymous what do you mean by it doesn't recognize the key, are you getting any error? What is the issue? It is not clear what you are trying to link together and what is the issue? Read this post to get your answer quickly.

Thank you so much for your reply, and I'm sorry for the wrong explanation. The error is; when I loaded the two table and both of them have the same CRM key, it gives an error that this is should be like in integer key type, not varchar. So the relation between these tables couldn't happen.

After I post this, I do research and I update the desktop app to the latest version and try to load the same tables, it's working now and the relation is created.

But in this case, how can I create the relation if wasn't solved by update the app.

@Anonymous very hard to say what was going on looks like data type of both columns were different. I wish you can reproduce the issue and we could look into it but I guess for now your problem seems to be solved. If you run into this issue again, do ping me and will be more than happy to look into it.

I would  Kudos if my solution helped. 👉 If you can spend time posting the question, you can also make efforts to give Kudos whoever helped to solve your problem. It is a token of appreciation!
