Analyze in Excel / Connecting to PBI dataset from Excel - can't make new measures in Excel, correct?

Hi,

When one connects a local Power BI file to an online Power BI dataset, one can then in their local 'thin client' Power BI files create new measures; it's pretty neat.

However, Excel can't do this. When one either does "Analyze in Excel", or, using the Power-BI Publisher for Excel, connects to an online Power BI dataset, one can *not* in their 'thin client' Excel local file, create new measures.

Is this correct / there are no workarounds? I don't think there would be...but want to check just in case.

Hi @mmace1,

Yes, we can. But it isn't DAX formula due to its connection type. Please refer to the snapshot below.

Ah, so it then has to be MDX.

Well, that sucks.  But thank you!
