Analysis Services- Import vs Connect live error.

Power BI is working fine on my tabular model, in desktop and import data. However, if I choose to connect live to import same Model/data, I get error;

“Couldn’t load the data for this visual” and the detail error says even more” Couldn’t retrieve the data for this visual. Please try again later”

Any help appreciated

Hi @Arnar,

Did your Windows user have enough permission in the SSAS server? Because only Windows credential can be used in the live connection. Please refer to desktop-analysis-services-tabular-data#frequently-asked-questions.

>>>Yes. Your current Windows credentials are used to connect to the Analysis Services server. You cannot use Basic or stored credentials in either the Power BI service or Power BI Desktop when exploring live.

Best Regards,

Dale

Hi@Dale

Think I have found the error, in a PowerBi site it is written „Limitations of Analysis Services live connections “is Server version 2016 and standard SKU or higher, another site says that DirectQuery from SSAS is an Enterprise only feature.

I am using SSAS server 2017 Standard Edition version 14.0.1000.169

It would be fine if someone could confirm my notion of this findings

Regards

Arnar
