Alternative to parameters to do dynamic API calls

I have a blank query data source that is used to get data from an API. The API has fields that allows to choose the period and the customer id for which we want data.

I want to give users the ability to select the period and the customer directly in the report.

I created parameters to allow the users to enter the period and the customer id.  The parameters are used in the M code that gets data from the API (inside the blank query data source).  This solution "works", however parameters have a few limitations that prevent me from using the report in production:

- Changing parameters is not possibble directly in the report:
In Desktop the user need to go in "Manage Parameters/ Edit Parameters".
In Online, the user need to click on the settings of the dataset to modify the parameters. Then the user need to refresh the dataset. This is particularly annoying in online since the parameters will be changed for all users.

- I find it difficult to display the parameters values directly in the report. I was able to display it in my report by selecting "Enable load" on the Parameter query, but I needed to manually refresh the data (of the data source associated to the parameter) each time I modified the parameters.

I was wondering if you have alternative to propose instead of using parameters.

Re: Alternative to parameters to do dynamic API calls

Hi @yabadabadou ,

It is nessary to refresh data after you change the parameter because it need to run query again based on the new parameter value, Sorry for that, but I also not found an effective solution to change value of parameter in the report directly.
