Advice requested how to structure data

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some help/advice/tips on how to structure some data for an analysis I need to do.

Data input (simplified examples):

- table1 (power consumption):

dataset 1 power consumption.PNG

every minute for every machine, the power consumption is logged (24/7/365 regardless if the machine is on or off)

- table 2 (machine schedule):

dataset 2 schedule.PNG

Gives a record when machines are scheduled for production. If a machine is not scheduled, there won't be a record. Both start and end time of the shift can vary per day.

Challenge:

I need to distinguish the power consumption for machine state scheduled and not scheduled. In other words, how much energy is consumed while running production, and how much while no production is running. A total number of power consumed, say for example per shift, is not sufficient. I need to be able to drill down to minute level and know the machine state.

Any advice on how to do this in an effective way?

Hi @Anonymous ,

Currently, for the Date/Time field, it is only support to drill down to the day level but not the time level.

You may refer to the formula in this case : https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Time-based-chart/m-p/648917#M311161.

Best Regards,

Amy
