I am trying to convert the data type for a month field to a "date" data type when it currently is being read by Power BI as a "text" data type. The months in the dataset are abbreviated and that is why Power BI is not recognizing the values as months. Is there any way to alias the values so that Power Bi can recongize these fields as month names ? Or is there any other way to convert this month field to a "date" data type ?
Hi @malcolmholly10 -
I know this is 2 years too late,but I found your post looking for the same answer myself. I was able to do it as a calculated column with the following code:
//[FC Month] is JAN, FEB, etc FCM = IF(Table[AmountType] = "Forecast", "1-" & Table[FC Month] & "-" & Table[Year])
This gave me the first day of the month in the given year. You can wrap MONTH() around the whole thing to convert the 3-letter abbreviation to an integer.
Hope this helps
You have convert this field to a date, could you share sample fields you have in the source, and find out best way to apporach it.
