API into Report Dashboard

I am trying to connect the API directly with a report dashboard.

I have connected my API to the desktop app and published a report and am able to filter by the URL. The issue I am having is to connect the API directly to the report dashboard, as I feel it needs to be bring in all the data into a table before being able to pull information from the report. But, how do I have it so it can directly connect to the API without saving/pulling data in that manner.

The "API"  ( I think you mean the XMLA endpoint client)  connects to the data model, not to reports or dashboards. You need to recreate the user experience on your side.
