This was my winning entry in the BI Elite visualisation challenge (Contest #4 - GME Stock + WallStreetBets | BI Elite Training), to tell the story of Gamestop - the epic battle between the well funded, organised hedge fund managers of Melvin Capital, and a bunch of degenerates who burn money investing in meme stocks who hang out on Reddit (GME TO THE MOON!!).
For this piece I wanted to make an infographic, to tell the story and I used Reddit as my inspiration. All the context and story telling I did through text is formatted to look like a reddit comment and as you move down the page you can dig into the various interesting bits of data - from share price to Reddit sentiment analysis (using Python). There is even a dump of the reddit comments through the period that you can dig through. Please be warned the language used is really offensive - WallStreetBets delights in tales about their wives boyfriends, sexual habits & all other kinds of degeneracy - there is a censor setup you have to remove before you'll see anything that might offend you, but please be pre-warned.
If you like this you can check out daytodatastuff.co.uk/gallery for more, or even find me on reddit at u/DaytoDataStuff. Otherwise, hope you enjoy and remember that monke strong and only the diamond handed succeed. To the moon boys! 🙌💎🚀🙌💎
