chart.xkcd for Power BI Custom Visual

    ‎08-30-2019 06:12 PM

Here's a custom visual I've recently produced that illustrates how to include and drive a third-party charting library inside Power BI. In this case, it's the recently-released chart.xkcd, which generates “sketchy”, “cartoony” or “hand-drawn” styled charts from JSON specifications.

This visual is written using the latest version of the SDK at time of writing (3.1.5) and available for download from its GitHub repository releases page. As chart.xkcd is relatively new and undergoing active development, I'm not planning to publish this to the marketplace at this time.

If you want to know more about using the visual, then head over the main repo page for instructions. It's open source, so I welcome aspiring custom visual developers to have a look and learn more about the custom visuals SDK.

I really like the visual thank you for creating it, I used the visual for Makevover Monday this week.

    By way of user feedback

    • The ticks on the axis do not appear to work well with percentages held as decimals
    • Sometime the legend will overlap the title

This is a great custom visual. I think it gives the report a friendly face to the users. I almost want to change my stories with this visual!

Hope you continue working with this visual so we can check it soon on the market.

    Regards, keep it up.

Thanks, @marcorusso! I wouldn't even know where to begin in reciprocating how amazing and inspiring yourself, Alberto and Daniele have been to me in upskilling with DAX and custom visuals development, so I'll start with "thanks" back! 🙂
