I got the idea of "visualizing" a song with PBI while driving, and a song came on with a syncopated beat. For us who like and study music, we have our own toolkits and ways to break down and listen to these songs. However, considering the PBI platform is built for the purposes of helping to understand data, what about data in the form of musical notes and rhythms?
This project builds on the idea I saw from the submission Power-BI-See-n-Say from @deldersveld and a previous exploration on serializing files in a PBI table (Power-BI-as-File-Storage) to hold the music.
Regarding the audio concepts, I would have to research to determine the strict definition and difference between syncopation and rhythmic displacement; Consider Sample_01 and Sample_02 as rhythmic displacement examples in that they are familiar patterns that are unexpectedly off the beat. Sample_03 is syncopation due to the straight rhythm, but the selection of notes and accents disguise the beat.
Also, the tool worked for me when I downloaded and opened the pbix file in the Desktop app. I do have node.js installed on my workstation, but I didn't know what to expect when I tried it.
Great job on this! Is your visual on AppSource? I can't seem to find it. If not, how do we get the pbiviz file? Compiling your source code will take a lot of effort for a newbie like me.
I really enjoy this "viz"...the cuts are nice and short and distinct, and the controls are easy to manipulate so that I can get the point you are making in the comments. Thanks for sharing.
