Analysis of England and Wales residential property sales from the last 10 years. Takes a few seconds to load, but then it is geo coding over 8 million records! Pretty quick once it's loaded.
Shape Map on the left provides a heat map of Purchases by Local Authority District to compare different areas in England & Wales. You can switch to other metrics such as Total Value or % Change in Median price from start to end. I opted for a light blue for the minimum colour, instead of the usual green as I think the cool - warm transition works better for a heat map.
Choose between Map, List or Charts on right hand side to further explore specific details for a selected Local Authority District.
Obvious standouts are the big growth in house prices in the London region. But perhaps less obvious (at least to me) were the large amount of sales in districts like Cornwall and Northumberland. And that there's a district called "Test Valley"!!!
Data sourced from HM Land Registry and ONS. Shape map uses a topoJSON file converted from a KML downloaded from ONS.
The original version I produced has data going back to 1995 and uses ArcGIS maps, but of course they don't work in reports published to web.
