South Africa is shocked on nearly a daily basis by a vast amount of different types of crime in all layers of society. Even though South Africa has a reputation for being a crime-ridden nation, it is good to have a look at the actual numbers and get the necessary context.
This report centres around data from the South African Police Service (SAPS). Crime statistics can be downloaded in Excel format from the SAPS website but are not interactive at all and lack visualisations and necessary context. The Power BI environment changes this completely and allows the users to interact with the data in any form or shape they want, with the right context. Population statistics have been added to the model to correctly compare the crime numbers across geographic areas with different population densities.
