    Sales & Returns Sample Report

    ‎12-16-2019 09:33 AM

We're excited to introduce a new Power BI sample report for you to play around with. This report includes new features, shows designs factors you should take into consideration when building a report, and has been optimized Power BI Desktop, service, and mobile. You can see how visuals from AppSource can be added to your reports, how they work well with other Power BI visuals, and learn how the Power Apps visual can be used in a report.

    Hi,

I am a beginner in PowerBI. Is the raw data used for this report available anywhere?

    Thanks in advance

I am building a course on MS PowerBI and trying to teach students the first part of the course using this sample report. I am experiencing several errors in the report. Could they be corrected? (Or please advise if it is me. Firefox wasn't working great so I'm on Chrome, using a Mac.) (1) On Page 2 (Intro), the three circles don't work (error: too few arguments in imageURL bucket). (2) On page 3 (Net Sales), the decomposition tree doesn't show. Does every end user really need to have this preview feature switched on via Desktop? (3) And most of the hidden pages don't show any content in Edit Mode, e.g. WhatIf tab. They all have the error: "too few columns in imageURL bucket". Is this expected behaviour? Thanks for any help.

There is an error message on first page of the report, on the left. Please correct it please. There seems to be an issue with the version of SQL Server Analysis

While this report does show some nice features of Power BI, it is once again another demo report that is not accessible.

A quick browsing of the report tells me:

    • tab order is not set and decorative shapes are not hidden in the tab order
    • there are color contrast issues with the light blue text on the blue background
    • there are color contrast issues with the light gray bars on the white background
    • No alt text has been set on visuals and the titles of the visuals are not very descriptive

The best thing I can say for it is that it seems to be mostly colorblind friendly due to the use of only a few couple of colors on each page and not combining red/green, etc.

I would love to see a nice demo report from Microsoft that even makes an attempt at basic accessibility. Maybe this one could be updated to do so? We have the features, there is documentation to teach people how to do this if they haven't already learned.

@Meagan you make some great observations.

Question; for the colorblind friendly techniques or palettes, which ones do you prefer?

    Thanks!

I almost always make my own palette rather than using a built-in one, but that is just because I am rather particular. If I don't have an organizational color palette to work from, I usually default to blue and gray or use viridis as inspiration. Lately, I'm enjoying using the free Adobe color tool to check my palettes for color blindness conflicts. But I also still just grab screenshots and put them in Coblis as another check. There are also browser extensions to help you check color blindness and other color contrast issues. I did check the first five colors of the default palette and they were ok as far as most types of colorblindness, and all colors had sufficient contrast to be used in charts against a white background. See this tweet for more info.

the bookmark navigation you had used is not working at design time, is this normal behaviour?

Thanks for the very interesting sample.

It does a great job of highlighting the new features of Power BI.

It does a less great job of being a report. It does include links to decomposition tool, but otherwise seems focused on presenting single meaningful number about current sales.
It is hard for the user to understand whether these numbers fall within the normal variation for sales and returns or whether they are significantly higher or lower than their normal range. Without this context it's hard for the user to assess the impact of what they are seeing.

    Hi,

Thanks for sharing and I think your report is amazing.

The Q&A visualization in the "Net Sales" and "Returns" page is not showing on the right hand side if I view the report in Chrome / Edge / Firefox. If I download the file and open it using Power BI Desktop, those two Q&A visuals can be displayed properly.

Just wonder if this is a bug when viewing this visual in Power BI Service? Or maybe due to brower setting issue?

    Best regards,

    Emily

    Hi Emily,

It turns out that the Q&A visual doesn't work yet with Publish to Web.  If you download the report and upload it to your own workspace on the service you should see it working there.

    Thanks,

    Tessa

Hi @tessahurr , would be possible for Microsoft PBI team to post at some point the end-to-end video that recreates this report? Thanks a lot

    Hello All,

Could some one share the video of this PBIX file. I am finding difficult to replicate the same for the bookmarks used in CLOSE ICON.

    Regards

    Nagaraj

Hi there! I'm a newbie to the PBI Community. I wondered if end-to-end video to replicate this report has been posted somewhere. I myself am working on a Daily Sales reporting for my employer and would love to incorporate some of this stuff this report contains. Big thanks in advance
