In this report, we leverage Power BI's web scraping capability and query editor features to build an enhanced country ranking based on the medal count at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. You can rank countries by various measures such as medal count, medals as a percentage of athletes, and medals per 100k citizens. We also rank athletes by the number of medals won, and you can quickly find medal winners in a certain sport or specific competition using the cross-filtering feature. Finally, we display the number of medals per country in a Bing map so you can see at a glance which parts of the world won the most medals.
The data sources for this report are from the official Rio 2016 website, Wikipedia, and the BBC. This was a live feed, so medal count was adjusting as the Games evolved.
