Fantasy Football Player Comparison Tool
With the new NFL season just around the corner its time to prepare for your fantasy draft!
Use the fantasy football player comparison tool by selecting player 1 & player 2 from this lists provided. The report allows you to compare players by viewing key stats including total fantasy points for the previous season, projected receptions, yards and touchdowns for the upcoming season as well as this seasons NFL.com 2017/18 predicted points total.
What IFs have been included to allow the user to create their own player projections under the sections 'Calculate Your Own Projection'. Simply adjust the selected player/s yards and touchdown amounts to see how it will affect their overall fantasy points. The scoring is based on the standard NFL.com fantasy scoring system.
An option has also been included for PPR (points per reception) leagues, if your league is a PPR league then select 'Yes' in the top left corner and the overall points calculation will then also take into account the added points for each of the players receptions.
The data used is courtesy of - http://fantasy.nfl.com/research/projections, http://www.nfl.com/stats/player

This is really cool - awesome use of PowerBI. I'm looking to create a similar one for the Australian Rules Football - are you able to send me a link to the .pbix file? It would provide an excellent template!
Thanks for sharing!
I really love the report. Amazing work. Would you be wiling to share the file so that I can try to understand the steps and the logic behind things.
Thank you
Hi,
The PBIX file is already uploaded, it is up earlier in the chat.
Thanks!
Do you have some kind of document or steps which I can go through in order to understand how exactly you made sucha wonderful report?
This is really cool David!
I was wondering if you could possibly share your .pbix file as I would really like to know how this is done.
Thanks in advance.
Hi - Thanks for the comment, the PBIX is further up in the chat.
All the best,
David
Hello David, Would you be able to share how you had the slicer for the players name bring up the corresponding picture for that player?
Thank you
Hi Drew248
In order to get the player pictures to work in that way I downloaded the pictures and saved locally. I then used a website to create an image url for each picture, the image url can then be added into a column within the table/dataset for each player.
In Power BI I think I used the table visual which lets you drag in the image url field as a value, I then added the chiclet slicer and filtered on the player name field from my dataset. I set the chiclet slicer properties to force the need for there always to be a player name selected and also only allow one option/player could be selected at a time.
I have attached an image that may be of use.
All the best,
David
are you going to build one for the upcoming fantasy season ?
Hi Drew,
I haven't planned on making another comparison tool exactly like this, but I have been developing a new report based around NFL QBs past and present but I just havent had enough time to finish it off. Once I do finish it I will try to upload it.
Did my explanation help from the other week btw? Your question about the player images and filters...
David
Hi David,
Can you add a relevant description file as to how the report is prepared?
Thank you.
This is awesome and easy to follow.
Can you explain how you incorporated the data and the pictures into a report?
I'd like to learn how you did this.
Thanks
Hi David,
This is fantastic! I am also starting to dig deeper into Power BI and wanna be able to reach a point where I can build something like this. Could you please help me with the steps. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.
Best Regards,
Vivek L
Hi Vivek,
I put together a quick document with a guide on how I created some of the key parts of the report.
I will message you and get it sent over.
All the best,
David
Hi David,
This is a great visual! I work for a very large school district in California and am looking to do something like this for a tournament of technology that we hold every year. Would you mind sending me information on the tools you used? It would be much appreciated.
-Nicole
Hi Nicole,
Yes I'd be happy to help out! I will message you with some information on how I put the report together. Was there anything you wanted to know specifically?
Kind regards,
David
Well, just curious as to what specific visualizations you used. I know you mentioned that you got your data from NFL directly...did you just pull it in as an Excel source? Also, how were you able to get the player's pictures to link to their name? Thank you!
