Jaws Revisited is a visual infopedia for 16 of the most famours shark types in the world, created around the SharkWeek period to raise awareness for these majestic predators of the ocean. You can see the endangered status of shark as per IUCN, the size of the shark relative to a human being, the common locations where the shark can be found as well as some interesting info regarding the shark.
Data Source - Images have been collected from simple google searches. The "Interesting points" for each shark have been collected from the Sharkopedia website. The endangered status of the sharks as well as the locations on the world map have been collected from the IUCN website.
One visual thing which I felt was important in this report was to ensure that the endangered status of each shark was reflected throughout the page once the shark was selected. From the colored rings around each shark (which I created in a separate image tool), to the same "status color" then being used in the coloring the map as well as on the center pane, I felt it was important to reflect the state of each shark since that was one of the primary aims behind this report.
I was really interested in creating this visualization because I feel that sharks are grossly misrepresented in common media. Seeing how so many so the sharks are on the Vulnerable or the Endangered status, makes you realize how the real predator is not the sharks but rather human beings. Hopefully this visualization helps create awareness regarding some of these famous shark breeds, though this is just scratching the surface as there are approx. 440 shark species in the world!
