Based on World Bank data, the report focuses on trends in manufacturing for 31 countries from 2000 to 2015. Data was not evenly available for all countries in all years. The purpose of this report is to demonstrate the multiple views, and resulting analysis that can be generated from a single dashboard so the gaps in data were ignored.
I was interested in this subject based on the focus of bringing manufacturing back to the U.S. The results were interesting - such as the overall decrease in manufacturing across all countries (on average) over the last 15 years. Automation is contributing to a decrease in manufacturing jobs, but does not explain an overall decrease for the industry. I thought the difference may be made up by other countries outside of the sample, but the trend for all countries is also on the decline (see visuals below). The decline appears to be due to the shift from manufacturing to the service industry (refer to the following article: Bloomberg - Why factory jobs are shrinking everywhere).
I attempted to use a NLP tool without success. My analysis is included on a separate page. Wouldn't it be nice if Power BI had snapshot and/or recording tools built-in?
Happy data surfing!
