whats the use of values() in CALCULATED?

I came across this measure:

CALCULATE(SUM(Revenue[Revenue])
,ALLSELECTED()
,VALUES('Customer'[Customer Number])
)

Whats the use of VALUES() in this case?

The microsoft definition isn't helping "When the input parameter is a column name, returns a one-column table that contains the distinct values from the specified column."

@ovonel

When you use this measure in a visual, let's say a TAble Visual, It will show the same value every line but will be filtered by the Customer Number.

ALLSELECTED() Clears the filters from all the columns within the visual (Query) and you provide one more filter to CALCULATE to include Customer Number.

VALUES Returns distinct values from a column and the result is a table. CALCULATE needs the filter as table so it is applicable at row and total level.

This is a bit confusing... why not just do:

CALCULATE(SUM(Revenue[Revenue])
,ALLSELECTED()
,'Customer'[Customer Number]
)

What's VALUES() adding?

@ovonel

You cannot refer to a naked column, you need to use a function to return a table or a column of a table for the filter parameter of the CALCULATE function.
